Spear of Destiny?
« on: March 07, 2009, 03:39:41 pm »
I know I'm makin everyone groan by requesting maps for various games from various platforms so I'll make this topic short and quick.

Has anyone mapped Spear of Destiny yet??

I've got the map editor version but would not mind seeing the 3D version of those maps.

Well, DarkWolf's done Wolfenstein 3-D and the two Blake Stone games, so might as well make it four out of four, eh?

Unless there are other games that use that engine...are there?  0_0

Now that I think about it, I recall Ken's Labyrinth and The Catacomb Abyss...but do they use the same engine?

I've never played Ken's Labrinth or The Catacomb Abyss yet.

Are those two games any good or worth getting?

In my opinion, not really.  I'm not going to seriously ask DarkWolf to map those two after doing Spear Of Destiny.

Catacomb 3-D is the Wolf3D's ancestor, so the engine is quite a bit more primitive (16 colors, running into a wall at an angle stops you dead so you're constantly stuck, etc). In my opinion, it's not worth mapping. Catacomb Abyss, Catacomb Armageddon and Catacomb Apocalypse use the same engine although I haven't played any of them.

I've never played Ken's Labyrinth either, but it looks like it uses an improved version of the Wolf3D engine.

I'm only committing to SOD at this time.  I've thought about doing Body Count, may revisit the idea, but it's a lot more complicated than any of the other ones I've done.

I take it Ken's Labrynth and the Catacomb Abyss series aren't worth getting or playing, huh??

I'm sure everyone's got the SOD editor maps and that's why I mentioned me having them to begin. I'm not plannin on posting them because Jon'll make a point about them not being mine. Point taken, Jon.

I've played all those 3d games. Perhaps you've forgotten to mention Depth Dwellers. I wouldn't say that game deserves 3D mapping due to its thin corridors and cloned Ri robots. Even Nitemare 3-D isn't that good game, although the map viewer in the gameplay is really crude and unhelpful, plus some puzzles can be tricky.

There's a program that can assist in compiling 3D game maps called "Wolf 3D Data Compiler" by Adam Biser.

I used to chat with one of the guys involved with WDC.  I must admit though, I use XWE to rip the graphics for the maps.

I would like to do Nitemare 3-D, as crappy as it is, but since neither Mapedit nor WDC supports it, it would take more time and effort.

Ken's Labyrinth isn't bad, but it's not based on the id engine, so I'd have to start from scratch.

Note that Ken Silverman has ported Ken's Labyrinth to the Build engine, so if you can make a level renderer for Build you'll get a few other games for free...

I did the first map of Spear of Destiny real quick and fortunately most of the sprites and wall #s match Wolf 3d.  So I might have them done this weekend.

I really do appreciate everything you folks have done with most of the map requests that I've made.

I can't really express my grattitude for having this site around.  :)

Great.

I can't wait to see what the maps look like and then try them out.
