So, I've found out that Golden Egg is exactly what I could want in a Yoshi's Island level editor: it emulates the way the game renders levels, random elements and all. It's very tempting for me to start using this. Very very tempting. But before I do, I'm going to make absolutely sure it won't mess anything up. If it really is as good as I think it is, I could be finished with Yoshi's Island very very soon.

Edit: It is!

Edit: And just like that, I finished 4-6. Woosh!

Lucky you. There have been a few Sonic the Hedgehog level editor/exporter, but they almost always mess up the priority of some sprites and other little things like that. It's been a while since I've played Yoshi's Island, so looking at the complete map set should bring back some lovely memories!

Yeah, if it weren't for me finding Golden Egg, this project would surely have lasted into 2013. Anyway, 4-7 is done. Next up is another one of those lovely castles!

Update: 4-8 is done. Time for the Impossible? Maze!

Update: Extra 4 is done. Onto World 5! ...after the weekend.

(2/5) Update: I don't think I'll be able to rip all of the Water Temple before the weekend is over. I only just now got to Dark Link. Looks like OoT is taking a backseat to YI for once!

(2/10) Update: YI 5-1 done! Considering how long this one took me WITH Golden Egg, I can't imagine how long it would have taken without it!

Very excited about the acceleration of these Yoshi's Island maps! That Golden Egg truly has been a great find.

It just makes me depressed as a Wii owner that Nintendo never released this game on the Virtual Console--and at this point looks like they never will. :(

Yeah. One downside, though, is that it can't view World 6's special tileset for 6-1 and 6-6, meaning I'll have to do a couple of levels the slow way.

And yeah, I'm disappointed they didn't. Had it shown up, I would have bought it instantly. Of course, having SMA3 on the 3DS is pretty good, too.

Anyway, 5-2 is done. So much snow!

Edit: I would just like to say 5-3 is huge. Like really huge. If it put the level end-to-end, it would probably be the biggest YI map ever.

Update: For those of you who missed it in the other thread, I've submitted all of the mini-maps from Mario Kart: Double Dash!!

Level 5-3 is the first skiing level. It's really quite gigantic. I am so glad it's done. ^^;;;

Update: Finished 5-4. Probably one of my favorite forts. Next is birds!

Update. Finished 5-5. Definitely one of my favorite levels. Next is clouds!

Updateish: Spring break is this upcoming week, which means I can FINALLY finish the Water Temple! :D

Notice: The Water Temple is fully ripped. However, I'm taking a short break from mapping this week so I can fully enjoy spring break. Woo~

Edit: Seems I can't get enough of mapping. I went ahead and ripped all of Bottom of the Well, too, meaning I'll have two dungeons to work on.

Update: Finished 5-6!

Update: Finished 5-7!

Yep! By the way, I just finished Extra 5, meaning I'm finally on World 6. This will be interesting.

Update (3/19): Finished 6-1. It actually went very quickly, even without Golden Egg.

Update (3/21): Finished 6-2. This level was rather short, actually!

Update (3/22): Finished 6-3. This level was even shorter!

Edit: Wow, 6-4 is one crazy level. Took me an hour and a half just to get the layout set up, and I'm not even sure it's correct.

Update (3/23): Finished 6-4. I guess this level makes up for all the short levels.

Damn, son! You're going to have this game finished in no time.

Just wondering, are you planning to map the GBA-exclusive bonus levels from the Super Mario Advance version of Yoshi's Island?

*facepalm* I didn't even know you were using your original post to announce mapping projects! >_<

Good to see you've decided to take on Master Quest and Majora's Mask after all. :D

I can't wait to see what Endless World of Yoshis looks like.

Speaking of which, how come, according to MarioWiki, Secret 5 and Secret 6 have two different names?

Secret 5 is "Fight Toadies w/ Toadies" or "Fight Baddies w/ Baddies"
Secret 6 is "Endless World of Yoshis" or "Crazy Maze Days"

Is this a Europe-American thing?

I never knew that, hmm. The first pair of names is what I know them as, so the second set must be for the European version. I have to admit, I like their names better!

By the way, I finished 6-8! Onto the final level!

Update: I'm done! It's been three years, but I've finally finished it! Woo!
