Topic: I have a grammar question...

Or rather, a wording one.



Let's say I'm talking with some people on an Internet forum and are surprised that they have girlfriends.  And some of them actually have fiancees and wives, which is all the more surprising to me.  Do I say:



1. I'm surprised that you have fiancees and wives, let alone girlfriends!



OR



2. I'm surprised that you have girlfriends, let alone fiancees and wives!



I get the order confused.

I think that you would sound more surprised with the nouns after "let alone." That means that number 2 would be the correct answer in your case; however, I think it's a moot point. I would choose number 3 tbqh.



3. I'm surprised that you have lives!

Okay, so I've been saying it backwards most of the time then.  It makes sense now that I reread my #2 example, but I guess in #1 saying "let alone" sounded like "because I'm already surprised by this smaller thing" or whatever.



And I apologize if anyone thought I was implying that anyone on an Internet forum can't be cool enough to have a girlfriend.  >_<  Bad example there.
