JonLeung's Requests
« on: October 19, 2019, 02:38:07 pm »
The past few years have been slow, so I figured I'd throw in a topic of my requests, for what it's worth. These forums don't have a history of fulfilling requests, but I figured I'd at least get these out there, if someone's hankering to map.

There are already many requests here, and normally I'd prefer requests to be in their own topic, but as I run VGMaps, I feel I have some clout to say "I'd really like to see these mapped." Does that count for anything? It'd be nice if these maps will be on the site eventually, though there's no actual rush. Though I'd probably rush to get them up in my own excitement...

Some have been requested before, so I'm "seconding" those requests. There are obvious (popular) requests and obscure ones (I enjoyed but not well-known). Some may be partially mapped but appear abandoned. Some have technical challenges. But I think most of these are reasonable. I may update this at any time. Take them or leave them; they are what they are.

Hey JonLeung, it's been a while.

I don't want to make any promises on map projects because I tend to not follow through and especially since I just don't have that much available time anymore.

But I have a few projects from your list that are pretty far along and it's good to be reminded that there is interest in them. I tend to forget just how many unfinished project I have lying around...

The ones I'd like to commit myself to are the following:

Shantae (GBC): The whole overworld is 99% done but the labyrinths are only about 40% done. I'll see what I can do about it this year.
Sonic 3D Blast (Genesis): I'd really like to finish this, especially since I was on a roll for a while with almost 40% of the game mapped.

I've got a few other projects that might possibly be continued/done this year, but I won't even bother mentioning them otherwise it'll just be disappointing  when I don't deliver.

I looked at this list. There is no games familiar to me, but some projects is interested for me.
I can ripped Super Mario 64 (N64) with using Quad64 level editor. It can visualisate a full technical maps on one screen. As an example, map for Wing Cap area:

Super Mario Bros. Deluxe (GBC) including an unused levels.

I've been working on Dragon Warrior II on and off for the past year. I just have a few more dungeons to map out, then labeling can ensue.

Secret of Mana is also a game I've been thinking of working on for a long while. With all the hard work done thanks to Tropicon, arranging and labelling the maps should be a piece of cake.

And I see you're requesting the PC version of Ultima VI. :) Seeing that it will be 30 years old this year on June 1st, it would be a fitting time to have it all mapped out by then. Though listing out every item that can be picked up is going to be madness... I'll try mapping out a small area, like Cove, and see how crazy it gets! :D

Thanks, FlyingArmor!

Finishing off Dragon Warrior: Part 2 completes the Dragon Warrior NES quadrilogy!

I'm not sure how to deal with fulfilled requests from the list, but for now I'll just strike it through with a thanks, and keep that up for at least a little bit instead of unceremoniously removing it immediately...

Hadoken!  Thanks to George s, arcade fan, who has mapped the classic Street Fighter II: The World Warrior (Arcade).  As you can see, I've also updated the background of that page to Suzaku Castle, Ryu's arena.

Will Mallia has mapped the classic The Island Of Dr. Brain (PC).  I don't know if it is as much of a classic as Castle Of Dr. Brain (which he also mapped the day before), but I believe I played the sequel first, back in the day, and replayed it more.  Good times!  I actually played it again recently (like within the past year) and on the hardest setting, but the copy I got is messed up at literally the final puzzle and therefore unfinishable...

Okay so I hope I'm not promising in vain but I think there's a good chance I might eventually check another request on that list *eventually*...

I don't want to bog down this thread with a ton of unnecessary details (I *do* tend to rant a lot) but I've been working on mapping Equinox (SNES) for the past few weeks. Long story short, this game finally forced me out of my comfort zone and I started using the BizHawk emulator which has made mapping this game possible. I've found a way to render the Mode 7 overworld in an isometric perspective with pixel-perfect accuracy (better than the actual game) and adding sprites over it as I go. I only have one dungeon done, but a lot of the time was spent experimenting with presentation so the rest *should* go faster and smoother but with me, you never know...

So yeah, I'm looking forward to sharing my progress in a dedicated thread :).

Thanks, to G.E.R. we now have maps of Kirby: Squeak Squad.  It's not the only DS Kirby game that G.E.R. has recently mapped, because I forgot to mention that we also have Kirby: Super Star Ultra, and upgraded version of the Super NES game (of the same name minus the "Ultra").

TerraEsperZ, I am very much looking forward to any Equinox maps you can do...

Today I edited the first post to have the release dates for the PC games to be clear about which ones I'm requesting.  Noticing that there aren't currently any games I'm requesting from the first decade of the 2000s (reminds me about what I was saying about point and click games in that same time period), and that the games in the 2010s are retro-style games that resemble late '80s or '90s games.

How is it October already?  Thinking about Halloween gave me the idea to add some creepy games to this list, especially in the PC section, like the iconic games The 7th Guest, Alone In The Dark, and Phantasmagoria.

Since near to the start of VGMaps.com's origin, or maybe 2006, only one original map for Zelda's Adventure made up the entirety of our CD-i Atlas.

But finally, yesterday, thanks to Jackster's submission of ripped maps from Link: The Faces Of Evil that atlas isn't quite as sparse anymore.  And that page now has a nice new background, too!

I'm super happy someone finally mapped one of the first two CD-i Zelda games.

Those two games might have horrible animations but the background graphics are gorgeous!
