The Legend of Zelda: Link's Awakening (DX) (Game Boy/GBC)
« on: April 22, 2006, 10:07:39 am »
I've always wanted to map the Link's Awakening overworld in its entirety, so that's what I've been doing lately. Sure, it may be unnecessary, but if it's fun, why not? The reason I put (DX) is because I think I'll do the dungeons in color. I've almost finished the overworld map, but I haven't started any dungeons.

So, wait, what?

Non-DX overworld and DX dungeons?

You should do it in color and then use an image editor to take out the color. BOOM you've got yourself 2 maps there. <_<

There are some differences, albeit minor.

Yeah. I'm going to do the overworld from Non-DX, and finish up what's yet to be mapped of DX. Not really the same project, but related enough to put in one topic.

The tiles are mostly the same, but nearly every one has a slight change. I could use my Tile Slicer/Splicer to do this quickly, but osrevad's map has a few mistakes that I'd have to correct first, and there's really no fun in doing it. I'm doing this for the fun of it, not just to have a map.

It's weird how nobody thought of doing this before now. The maps on VGMaps are shrunk which, to me, is criminal for screenshot maps. Good luck Revned, and more than anything, have fun ;)

Looks good and consistent across the animated tiles. It really looks empty and simple though after seeing the color version, but that has nothing to do with you.

I used my Tile Slicer/Splicer programs to ensure consistency. I very much doubt you'll find a single faulty tile.

Yes, I also think it looks empty. The grass is very uniform, unlike the more varied color versions. The trees are also smoother, and simpler. It was fun to map, but I would have liked doing the color one more. This game was easier, though, as I was able to make extensive use of the screen warp glitch.

It's so weird; the overworld looks so much smaller than it feels in the game. Albeit I haven't played it in some years. Quality work Revned.

Thanks! I always loved this game's world. I don't know why, but it felt very different than the other Zelda game since it's on an island. It doesn't seem like it'd make that much of difference, but it does.

Wow, it's been awhile. I just got the urge to map a Zelda game and figured I should actually work on this. It maps so quickly it's scary. I've only been working for 15 minutes or so and I'm almost done with Tail Cave.

Done already! I mapped this faster than I've mapped any game before, that I can remember. It was fun, and I like the results. They look much better than the OoA/OoS dungeons. Speaking of which, I borrow parts of the header from them since the menu graphics are pretty bland here.

So of the 2D Zelda games, what's left to be completed?  Probably just A Link To The Past's dungeons and Minish Cap.

A Link To The Past's Light World maps were my the first maps on the site.  I'm glad someone got around to the Dark World when I couldn't.  I think the first dungeon was done too but if only they all were...
