VGMaps.com won't be posting maps for fan games. They are simply too numerous and of such varying degrees of quality. They wouldn't be worth the effort to put up all these maps for games not many people play, especially when it's hard enough to keep up with submissions for "real" games. Sad to say, the baseline is whether a game is actually published and developed by companies (that are more than just a person or two in their basement) and distributed via cartridge, disc, or official download services.
(On that note, at some point I may have to run a fine-toothed comb over some of the games in the PC section as there are some that I don't think should be there.)
The April Fools' jokes in the past were just that; jokes. Okay, well, jokes to bring more attention to VGMaps.com. But because it was just for a day at best, they weren't worth the months of effort. Then I was hassled by numerous fangame makers that wanted me to hand over all my work to them on a silver platter because they were too lazy to make their own game. Which kind of takes away the whole point of making a fan game - to enjoy making it - and shows how much effort they're willing to put in (as in little), so it sounds as if it won't be that great of a game anyway - and assuming they even finish it. I try not to mean disrespect to fangame makers, but come on, there are a lot that are really amateurish, you have to admit that. If anyone has skill to make games, they should make their own game, like Cave Story or Minecraft, and actually profit from it.
