Ok, these aren't maps (don't get any ideas either), but I wanted to apply my isometric method to something more complex.

This looks good. But you did use a program for this, too - or did you create it manually?

I used PHP to skew the textures and assembled the scenes with Paint.NET.

I wonder how many games were ever made on that kind of engine.  That is of course assuming they stopped.

The Build engine was probably the last major 2.5D raycaster. The advent of real 3D after Quake meant they mostly went away, but the fact that you still have to have normal rooms and corridors and have them designed in a map editor means many might still be reproducible in this form.
