Terranigma Overworld map
« on: February 28, 2011, 11:06:17 am »
It's a mode 7 map
I can provide a save file for it and whatever else is needed ;)
I've seen somewhere a map of the underworld, which is (i believe) equally hard/easy to rip. But i'm no ripper so i'll leave that for the pros to decide.
This is how it looks completed:
fantasyanime[.]com/legacy/terran[_]worldmap.gif (remove the square brackets)
That guy said he took from somewhere else a long time ago and he doesn't know now where was that. Obviously a map that has 10% of it labels on it isn't what i wish for - or else i wouldn't request here :(
And a screenshot in-game when the character is on the map:

Hope someone can help me or at least post a reply saying it's too hard to rip or something...

Hah, to hard to rip, funny.  I did the underworld in a single rip, look here:
http://www.vgmapper.com/SysSNES/T/Terranigma.html

Yeah Alex's rip at Fantasy Anime is zoomed out.  Re ripping this map would involve making a few codes but nothing too fancy.  The problem is that, like most RPG overworlds, this one changes.  Cities grow, areas might be missing depending on what you did early in the game.  You'd have to know specifically which version of the map you wanted, otherwise it's re ripping every little area with every little change. ... OK so maybe it is hard to rip, or at least time consuming.  You said something about saves?  That could speed things up if you know what you want.

Trop, thank you for your reply! So you are the ripper who got the underworld map. Now i know who to thank for showing how Quintet made that awesome atmosphere in underworld. Thanks!

Well it is true, overworld changes:
1. at first, all of it is a demonic red (filter i guess or just another palette) - not interested
2. cities appear and grow - personally i don't have one particular "state" of this overworld that i want, but i think the one when all cities are expanded is best, for completion.

Perfect game save for that:
Game Save #5: Beruga
Slot 3 - Level 29, 18:09. Beruga's Tower/Airship.

I understand it's hard to rip but i replied because there were some questions in your post. Well, i now know the reason why it hasn't been ripped  :'(

OK, I'm done.  That was easier then expected.  Like all SNES mode 7 world maps it's 4097 by 4097.  If you want other changes made to it just say what.  I'll post it as tomorrows update on my site and on the page I linked to already here, so you'll have to wait 12 hours to see it.

O-M-G Thanks  ;D It's awesome

Sadly, i failed to test everything and now i see some towns that aren't fully developed.
For me it's ok.

Later Edit: I've expanded all of them (though not all of them *can* be expanded to the "block of flats" style, neither in Jp version nor in the En one). Just if you wish that "fully expanded" on the description of it be exactly true:ter.srm - 0.01MB Choose the 3rd slot.

This way it would be complete: except The lab tower in eastern siberia. But it's not an unique sprite. It's just the 'castle' 1x1 sprite in that lonely, free, grass tile in eastern siberia. Heck i guess who wants that can copy/paste it there. Here's the place and the tile that goes there at almost end of the game (not playing till there >_<).

As for me, I'm happy with this one already  ;D

Anytime.  If only there were more mode 7 games.  I think they've all been mapped by this point.  Piken needs to make some non mode 7 mapping tools.
