I started to try to map this game, but never got very far. I've been really inactive in terms of mapping because of other projects, but if I ever get back into it this will be one of the games I'll do.

Mapping Tips/Guides / Re: Alpha channels

You can definitely do this with Photoshop
- Paste the original image into Photoshop as a new image
- Copy the alpha channel image
- Go to the image layer and click Layer->Layer Mask->Reveal All
- Go to the channels tab and make Layer name Mask visible
- Press Ctrl+V to paste into the layer mask

I've been working on my editor for about a year and a half now. Just like you, I found the existing editor difficult to use and limited as far as what can be edited. The reason most people haven't heard of mine is because I haven't advertised it or released it anywhere. Anyone who knows about it probably found it through a Google search or was referred there by me.

Quote from: Will on October 04, 2011, 02:51:55 PMWith so many levels in the game, you'd think there would be a level editor released.

There are actually 2 level editors for this game. One limited and difficult to use one you can find here, and one that I coded, found here.

Thanks so much!  And thanks for the instructions too, there are a lot of these in the game with many different sizes.

I've finally finished world 3!  Check the first post for the links.  I'll be having more free time in the near future, so hopefully I will get some more done soon.

Mapping Tips/Guides / NSMB Wii Rotating ground
May 27, 2011, 09:16:12 PM
I am trying to recreate the rotating ground elements found in New Super Mario Bros Wii.  The game takes the image below and rotates it in a circle.

And forms something like this:

If anyone has any clue of how to do this in Photoshop or GIMP, please let me know.

The speed run on Speed Demos Archive is about 3 hours, so that would be the bare minimum.  Realistically, if you've played through the whole game before, I would say it takes anywhere from 6-10 hours depending on if you try to collect the maximum amount of force gems per level, and the cooperativeness of the group.  I'm not entirely sure though, it's been a while since I've played through some of the later levels.

As far as I've seen, there are just rooms here and there that are different.  It varies how much these rooms are different though.  Sometimes there is only a small part of the room changed, but sometimes the entire room is different

Here is a part from Lake Hylia.  The rooms are only slightly different.

This is a room from Eastern Temple.  The rooms aren't even similar.

I just realized that there are certain parts of levels that are different if you are playing with one player or with a group.  Do you guys think that I should go back and add these to the maps, and what would be the best way to notate that?

World 2 is done! With the Eastern Temple completed, I am 25% done with this game.  I have also made some minor improvements so my previous maps.

It's been a while since an update, but I have the next level done.  I've been really busy for the past month so I haven't had much time to work on it, but things are slowing down, so I should have more time now.

Check the first post for the link.

I'm hoping I never have to go past Z, but maybe I could resort to numbers, symbols, or aa, bb, etc.
