Gaming / Re: Portal 2: Songs to Test By - Soundtrack Volume 1 (FREE)
« on: June 14, 2011, 12:28:59 pm »
Do you know why I'm here? I was wondering if the second volume had come out, so I did a Google search for  "Portal 2 soundtrack volume 2" and this was the third result. Small world.

I hope it comes out soon, because I really love about half the tracks from the first. I'm not a huge fan of the more conservative ambient music, but it's worth it for the rest.

Your Wolfenstein maps bring back a lot of memories. Not so much from playing the game. I don't know if anyone else remembers this, but when I had the shareware DOS version of doom, it came with an exe called mapedit. It allowed you to view the maps from the game from a simple top-down view, and even change it if you want. My older brother and I would create maps and challenge each other with them. Good times.

I played Blake Stone too (PC-13 for Profound Carnage), although I never got very far. I seem to remember enjoying it a lot more than Wolfenstein. Maybe it was easier, or the texture design was more varied.

That's pretty nifty. I wonder how they calculate the traffic. I'm kind of surprised how big MSN. It's about the same size as Wikipedia! I would also think that myspace would be smaller than vgmaps at this point.

Mapping Tips/Guides / Re: Nintendo 64 Mapping Workshop
« on: October 01, 2010, 11:41:57 pm »
I wish that I was brave enough to get involved with 3D mapping. Remember when I made that lame attempt at mapping Ocarina of Time with some flying cheat? Good times.

On a more serious note, I had a thought:

2D games are perfect for mapping because the map itself will be 2D in the end, meaning that if you are careful, then no information will be lost, with the possible exception of animated stuff (water, lava, etc.).

The purpose of this thread is start mapping 3D games. Here's my question: Why don't we explore the possibility of making the maps themselves 3D  :o . Imagine connecting distinct 3D rooms together in some rendering software (or something) to create maps of the game. Then, somehow, a visitor to vgmaps.com would be able to explore the maps by moving a camera around in 3D.

What is this you say? 3D on the site itself? It's certainly possible to have 3D on a webpage using flash or java. At minecraft.net you can play a 3D game with graphics better than the N64, with nothing but java.

Obviously, nobody wants to program a 3D java viewer from scratch, but I'm sure there must be something that is already out there that might suit our needs. So basically, all we need to be able to do is two things:

1. A 3D java/flash viewer, if such a thing exists.
2. The ability to export the 3D game data into a format compatible with the java/flash viewer.

Piece of cake  ;D

I am by no means an experienced programmer, but I know that some of you are. What thoughts do you have on whether something like this is possible? Does anyone think this would be cool or useful?

Because he's still working one it.

Because of what he said in his post.

Because the SNES version's overworlds are completely different.

I've been doing some research on it this afternoon. They have a GameBoy tileset for the editor on the website. The only problem I can see far is that the GameBoy has 10x8 tile screens. Because Zelda Classic is based on the NES engine, it has 16x10 tile screens.

The more I look at these maps the more amazed I am. I can't fathom how much time it took to design and make all of this, including the all of those dungeons.

As for a fangame, I think Zelda Classic would make it a possibility. I know it allows for multiple overworlds, so it would be possible to make it so you can teleport in between a day and night world. I'm sure they already have a link's awakening tileset, ant they most if not all of the items.

Bots? No. The only logical explanation is the new Wikipedia article.

Congratulations on the new car. I really don't know how I'm ever going to afford one myself, let alone one that apparently transforms into a giant robot.

I should have made it more obvious that it was a joke. But anyone ever makes a site about the Game Gear they have to call it the Game Gear Gazetteer.

"Perhaps you osrevad could write an article after all your great ideas."

That reminds me. I think the literary device of alliteration is completely underused on this website. On the front page all of the links to the various systems should be renamed like this to go along with the map theme:

Commodore Cartography

Nintendo Navigatorial

TurboGrafx Topography

GameCube Compass

Game Gear Gazetteer

Atari Archeology

Lynx Landscapes

Xbox Expanses

And so forth.

Maps In Progress / RE: Wii Fit

I actually like to hear of anyone's progress in using this game.

Here's a thumbnail of what's done so far. I still need to:

- Do the tunnel

- Do the part where you go across the rickety bridges

- Do the beach.

- Do the river and the lakes.

- Do all the different paths you can take for each difficulty. I'm going to color code them based on the color of the dog.

Short: 1 Dog

Long: 2+ Dogs?

Island: 5+ Dogs?

I know this is a triple post, but I've never cared about such things anyways.

I've been working on this for the past week. I thought I was almost done, until I walked into the living room and saw my brother running through a cave! The cave lead out to a secret lake on the mountain. It also has a fork in it. This means that I still have quite a bit to add, not to mention figuring out all the paths. Give me a couple more days.

I could help with a Wikipedia article, and I'm sure I would be able to prevent it from getting deleted. All we need is to have as much proof in the article of media coverage as we can get. Like saying how it was on The Screensavers, G4, Digg, and have a section about it's infamous April Fools jokes.

There's still a chance that they would delete it with how snooty some of them are, but If I can keep my article on Daniel Owsen from getting deleted, I think I can manage this site.

Anybody have other ideas for content? Wikipedia loves controversy. Too bad there haven't been any lawsuits (Not really). The closest thing I can think is that some guy on Slashdot thought all the maps were just stolen from other websites. :P
